The YMCA of Greater Richmond uses a nation-wide swim lesson program designed to teach SAFETY in the water, along with proper stroke techniques and competitive strokes. But it all begins with safety around the water.
Our staff at the pool are all trained in red cross lifeguarding. We also always have waterfront certified lifeguards to supervise boating. These lifeguards and swim instructors do weekly audits and in-services to ensure that the pool is the safest place to be!
Before swimming at camp, all campers are given a swim assessment in the pool under the direct supervision of certified lifeguards and receives a swim band on the first day of camp that they wear as a necklace at the pool. This is a safety procedure that helps staff distinguish between swimmers and non-swimmers. Please make sure that your child wears their swim band to camp every day.
